it was the first day of chinese new year on monday. there is a big BIG comparison in the nz and kuching chinese new year mood. i bet every 'non-chinese' wouldnt even know it's chinese new year; the 15 days that excite chinese most. i am a chinese living in new zealand, a country where my race isnt originated from, so, it really isnt considered a crime for them not making chinese new year a big thing. so, in order to satisfy my cny mood craving, i plan to make a trip back to kuching within the next 2-3 years. this wish will HAS to be fulfilled.

we invited aunty tze and joleen over for cny dinner. i forgot to take photos! too busy talking and eating =.=' managed to snap the desserts just before it went down our tummys.

some kind of pink kuih aunty made.

mum's fruit platter- watermelon, rock melon & cherries. we traded ice cream and cake for fruits this time :) oh, i found out that cherries has seeds in them! hahah, how come i never knew? because i dont eat cherries okay, so we updated ourselves within a whole load of family politics that night. i knew things i never knew. we ushered in the new year with only a simple hug and wish, no firecrackers :( slept at 2.45am.

waking up early, dressing up in new bright coloured clothes and rushing off to grandma's would most likely be a typical first day of chinese new year for me. i did neither on that day this year, i woke up and didnt feel any rush whatsoever. i even lacked the fondness of receiving angpaos. what the hell, actually i totally forgot angpaos existed until parents reminded me of them. no..! im losing my asian self bit by bit..

you know how we see the ocassional caramel apple on american films? i've always wondered how one tastes like so i asked bro to make them. there really wasnt much difference taste-wise, just a tad sweeter on the outside bit. other than that, it's just like an ordinary crunchy apple.

he went to chuck on walnuts and almond flakes =.=?! i, of course picked them all off.

i got inspired by how easy he made caramel sauce, so i tried making cocoa caramel panacottas.

trust me, it looked like perfect caramel sauce before the cocoa powder went it. that stupid recipe, it's so impossible to succeed following that recipe so i changed it a little. the crap in the pot you see above went into the bin of course.

i decided to let the cocoa powder dissolve in the cream instead of the caramel next time round. turned out well. i dont have the photos of the pannacottas because i kinda messed up the last one i saved for the photo. apparently i didnt put enough gelatine, oh well, wouldve been perfect.

the first 12 hours of my first day of chinese new year was pretty average but everything heated up when the clcok struck 9.30pm. brandon and i went over to denise's (neighbour) house for game night. kayleen and jun came over as well. nicole went to bed early cause she had work the next day. oh! denise offered me A&W rootbeer within 5 mins of my arrival! "did you read my facebook status???!!" she went "=.=??" she didnt have a clue on what i was on about. just in case you dont know, ive been having crazy A&W rootbeer craves for the last 2 days. oh! she didnt just offer me a can of rootbeer, she offered me a rootbeer float; even better. no, actually i'd prefer just the rootbeer minus the scoop of ice cream. but as along as the rootbeer is present, i'll settle.

played rounds of jin rami. thank god, it was only for fun otherwise i wouldve blown a whole year's earnings. moved on to wii a while later. crazy chloe the jack russell seemed to always be within 50cm radius of where the humans were that night. what excites chloe? movement. and i bet you know how much movement is required playing wii. you can only imagine, that dog got so SO turned on, especially by jun's sexy legs, hahah! they were boxing away while chloe humps away! funny thing is that she only 'clings' on to jun, hahah, he's obvioulsy her type. uh, i shouldve brought my camera!!! we couldnt made the funniest videos that night. apparently, i boxed so funny it made kay-lynn cry with laughter. i kept wondering what i did wrong so, i gave up 5 seconds of the match to look at jun and to immitate his moves. when i just wanted to attempt my new skills, the K.O popped up. that 5 seconds got me knocked out. he was practically undefeatable AND he knew he was undefeatable that's why he wouldnt stop pestering everyone to go against him.

we were sweating like pigs in the middle of the night, so disgusting but worth it.

jin rami champ- brandon
bowling champ- kay-leen
baseball champ- jun
boxing champ- jun
tennis champ- everyone; it was pretty equal

denise and i werent technically masters at any game that night but we make pretty good supporters :P

taken on the first day of chinese new year.

went to school this morning to swap my subjects. bro followed because we were suppose to go to woolies to pick up stuff so, he waited while i queued. i told him it'll be about 10-15 minutes when it actually turned out to be a freaking hour and 15 minutes, whoops. worst thing was that i couldnt find him when i came out, so i assumed that he went home; i did asked shorale to tell him to go home if he didnt want to wait. i couldnt text him because his phone drowned in the washing machine weeks ago. when i got home, he wasnt home. anyway, cut long story short. he waited 2 and a half hours for me, all for nothing. omgod, i felt so so bad. he's so gonna use that against me everytime he slips up.

went to nyonya restaurant for lunch. stole sips of chendol from bros glass had chendol!

back to work tomorrow.
